Sisterlocks^TM and Brotherlocks^TM, are wonderful options for individuals who desire small, cultivated locs. The technique allows clients an option to achieve small, stylish, manageable locs without chemicals or additives like relaxers, gels or waxes. The Sisterlocks^TM and Brotherlocks^TM system is designed for highly textured hair and doesn't involve chemicals nor extensions or attachments. This unique technique eliminates the possibility of harsh side effects sometimes present due to the use of chemicals like breakage, thinning, hair loss and allergic reactions.

Since Sisterlocks^TM and Brotherlocks^TM are smaller than traditional locs, clients experience more styling flexibility, fuller hair with more body and sometimes even the discreetness of people not knowing their hair is locked. It's the perfect style for clients who desire to be natural, but love to style their hair in rod sets, updos, braids, etc and do not desire to cut off the relaxed ends to start locks. One of the other great benefit Sisterlocks^TM and Brotherlocks is that clients do not have to cut off relaxed ends to start them. Clients need only 3 inches of new growth (virgin hair) to start the system. Clients may then maintain the relaxed ends using rod sets, braid sets or heat styling until the desired length is achieved with the Sisterlocks^TM or Brotherlocks^TM.

The Installation
Sisterlocks^TM and Brotherlocks^TM are installed using a technique that to the lay person is similar to braiding, however the technique is unique and is vastly different. The hair is backcombed at the root and interlocked using a unique pattern specific to each clients hair texture. These patterns are the cornerstone of what makes each person's Sisterlocks^TM and Brotherlocks^TM have their own distinct look. The locks are tightened at the root using a Sisterlock^TM tool that resembles a shark's tooth. This tool is attached at the end of the hair and then interlocked into the lock until the hair is snug at the root. The installation process can take from 12-24 hours to install. For longer installations, the stylist may opt to break the session into two days - for the client's convenience and for their own.

The Consultation
To begin the Sisterlocks^TM and Brotherlocks^TM process, a consultation is required with Tonya Reed, Sisterlocks^TM Consultant. The consultation cost is listed on our services menu and generally takes approximately 1 hour. During this session, personal hair history, styling preferences, installation cost and lifestyle activities will be discussed to determine if Sisterlocks^TM is right for you. Also, test locks will be put in your hair to see if they will hold, identify adequate sizing and settling in time, etc. This consultation is essential and is performed prior to any Sisterlocks^TM and Brotherlocks^TM installations at Uncle Funky's Daughter. After the initial installation, clients will return for a follow-up session after approximately 2-3 weeks. This session includes retightening any locks that may have slipped, shampooing and grooming the hair as well as techniques for home care. Based on the condition of your locks, your personal re-tightening schedule will be determined as well as the length and cost of your re-tightening sessions. All retightening sessions are done in 4-6 week intervals and take an average of 3 hours. The cost of these sessions is discussed on our services menu.

The Sisterlocks^TM and Brotherlocks^TM system is a wonderful hairlocking option. Many clients with Sisterlocks^TM and Brotherlocks^TM experience hair growth far beyond any they've known while chemically processing their hair. Also, this system certainly dispels the myth that African American hair can't grow very long.
